About us

We are a British Model Flying Association (BMFA) affiliated multidisciplinary flying club based at Two Tree Island, Leigh-on-sea in Essex. We fly many different aircraft types powered by electric, nitro/glow fuel or petrol. Jet turbine models cannot be flown at our field.

Everyone is welcome.  If you are new to the hobby we offer friendly advice and tuition. If you’re an experienced pilot join our friendly fellow members in sharing a great field, with fantastic facilities for you to use.

Our regularly maintained field features a hard standing, smooth tarmac runway and is accessible all year round. The flight line orientation means the sun is always behind you, especially during summer, allowing you to fly without being blinded! We have no dangerous obstructions around our airfield, such as power lines, giving you piece of mind on both take off and landing approaches.

Our dedicated committee work hard all year round ensuring members enjoy their hobby to its full potential. They organise club nights with various activities including talks on different aspects relating to the art of model flying helping you progress and learn about the hobby. Other committee led activities include round the pole flying and – for those dark cold winter months – indoor flying (yes – you can fly indoors!). Other activities include BBQs, events at the airfield and putting on air shows and static displays at various locations throughout the year. These are well supported and are a great social opportunity for club members. To keep up to date with these events please see our Upcoming Events section.

If you have not flown before and wonder where to start, we are here to help. All of our members are happy to advise and help you out. Training is available at the field and we have examiners to take you for your A test and further if you wish to do so. For more information please see our New to the hobby section.

Membership to our club includes use of all our facilities, BMFA insurance (a requirement to fly at our airfield – BMFA country insurance is also permitted), Civil Aviation Authority DMARES optional membership, training courses and a discount at Active Scale Models.
